WE BELIEVE A GREAT ATHLETIC PROGRAM SUPPORTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT.

The state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor athletic facilities at Sussex Academy reinforce that a great athletic program supports academic achievement, by developing students who are fit, competitive, well-rounded, confident and team-oriented.

Outdoor facilities

To accommodate the requirements of varsity, junior varsity and middle school sports, the 30-acre outdoor athletic complex includes five grass playing fields for practice and games, and two lighted turf fields.

One softball diamond has been built. Baseball games are played at the nearby Sports at the Beach complex. Plans call for the sports facility to add a baseball field, track and tennis courts.

Indoor facilities

Sussex Academy’s world-class gymnasium will host basketball and volleyball games. The academy includes fully-equipped locker rooms and a gym for grades 6th through 8th in the middle school wing. The aquatic center provides a high-tech facility for practices and meets for Sussex Academy and other schools in the county. Students have direct access to a weight training room and the aquatic center from both locker rooms.

No additional fees are required for students to participate in sports at Sussex Academy. Student athletes must meet the academic and eligibility requirements specified by the DIAA. Eighth-grade students gain a possible fifth year of athletic eligibility at Sussex Academy.*

*8th graders participating in high school sports must have attended Sussex Academy in 7th grade.

The school’s mascot is the Seahawk, or osprey, a bird of prey known for its speed, vision and agility, and its strong family loyalty.
